Dr Samantha Horne
Sam was first adopted by the SVES team in 2015, working as a vet nurse while she was finishing her studies at Sydney University. Upon graduating her veterinary degree she became one of our emergency vets.
She is now a key part of our amazing emergency team, and has particular understanding and interests in toxicology, pain management, and animal behaviour issues, particularly ensuring anxious animals feel safer and calmer during their care at our hospital.
Before coming to SVES, Sam was a paediatric registered nurse. Nursing children requires empathy, patience, a sense of humour, skill and dedication, all things that are very important to her practice as a veterinarian as well. Sam is also the proud parent of Dasha, a Japanese Spitz who would struggle to live in the wild without the comforts of a bed, a heater, a couch and other such luxuries she has come to expect. Outside of work, Sam also enjoys gardening (plants are taking over her apartment), true crime podcasts, and finding the best coffee in Sydney.
