Project Description

Dr. Patrick Byrne

Medicine Specialist

Patrick grew up locally in Coogee and graduated from the University of Sydney in 2011 with first class honours. He worked in small animal general practice in Port Stephens and locally for a few years before commencing a rotating internship at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney (UVTHS) from 2014-2015.

He then started his small animal internal medicine residency from 2015-2018 at UVTHS, completing his membership examinations successfully in 2015.

During the residency he had externship placements at the University College, Dublin (UCD) and at the Animal Medical Centre, New York under the supervision of renowned and respected specialists of multiple disciplines. He attended and presented his research at the European congress during his residency in 2017.

After completion of his residency he worked as a Small Animal Internal Medicine Clinical Registrar at a referral hospital in Sydney before passing his boards to attain his specialist diploma in March, 2019.

He has come on board to work with us and is excited by the prospect of working with many familiar and new faces and joining the diverse and dynamic team at Sydney Veterinary Emergency and Specialists.

He enjoys all aspects of internal medicine but has an interest in immune-mediated disease. He is always excited to learn new things, go to conferences and extramural courses to improve his skills in different areas. Labrador’s have a special place in Patrick’s heart so he always takes the time to say hello to all our Labrador patients and you will often find Patrick walking his beautiful Labrador Nala around the Coogee area and along the coastal walk.
